Franco – Swiss
There is a place in the Jura Mountains where people are neither entirely French, nor entirely Swiss, but have their roots, a history and an exceptional landscape in common. You are in the country of cheese, lakes, big spruce forests and solitary houses covered with tiny spruce plaques; you are in the “Franco – Swiss High Jura”.
The river Orbe is like a hyphen between two regions: Franche-Comté and Vaud, or even better between two collectives: Val d’Orbe and Vallée de Joux. A low frontier wall separates these two countries, which are nevertheless loyal neighbours. Two mountain chains define the area of this valley of High Jura, and give it a north-east/ south-east direction: on the south side the Swiss Risoud, prolonged by the French Risoud; on the north side Le Mollendruz all the way to La Dôle, where vast pastureland is delimited by low stone-built walls, which reveal its soft outlines. In the north and in the south, two peaks, which originate from a tectonic fault, close the mountain circle: La Dent de Vaulion and Le Mont Fier.
In the heart of this regional natural park that High Jura provides, four villages have put themselves together in order to offer the advantages of a holiday resort, while preserving their intimacy: Les Rousses, Prémanon, Lamoura, Bois d’Amont (all in France). Borderer with Vallée de Joux, this resort is situated at an ideal altitude (1120 – 1680 m), which allows tourists to spend a pleasant holiday in a serene and preserved mountain scenery.
In winter, this resort is a real leisure centre, a paradise for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. Sliding enthusiasts can go downhill skiing, snowboarding, Telemark skiing or snowblading on the slopes of the biggest ski resort in Jura.
In summer, the same four villages offer a wide range of activities for all ages: mountain biking, sailing, golf, skating, canyoning, rock climbing, riding as well as adventure tours. Discover Lac de Lamoura and aquatic sports on Lac des Rousses. Go for a family walk along one of the many footpaths, or simply regain new strength in fabulous surroundings.
