This circular route starts in the Thomassette mountain pastures and continues through the impressive Risoud forest, known for its centuries-old pine trees.
The Risoud forest is the biggest single forested area in Switzerland. In summer, there are lots of hiking and mountain biking trails and in the winter the forest is transformed into a playground for cross-country skiers.
The trail starts with a slight climb to the Moësettaz chalet with eventually the Grandes Roches building in the distance. From here, the trail continues through forests and pastures to the crossroads by the Mézery chalet. Don’t miss the Apollo hut you’ll find on this section. This unmanned hut is really worth making a little detour and is one of many places open to the public in the Risoud forest.
The return takes you up a slight incline on the La Molasse forest road, to the high point of the route at 1,210m, then back down to Grandes Roches, forking off to the Thomassette plain, back to the starting point.
