Brenet Lake didactic theme trail

At the northern point of the lake a yellow sign indicates the tour of the lake. Start at the train station in Le Pont for a loop of 4-km (1 hour, flat terrain). Approximately a dozen interpretive signs will guide you through the history of ice-making in the region.

You’ll find the first interpretive sign as you leave the train station in Le Pont, along the right bank of Brenet lake. During the winter months, the Société des Glaces de la Vallée de Joux capitalized on the frozen lake water. Sawed, cut to size and stocked, the ice reputed as the purest in quality, was then transported to brasseries and restaurants in Lyon and Paris. As you progress along the trail, you will find yourself on the more peaceful left bank where you will discover even more interesting details of the history. The trail will take you through cliffs, reeds and pine trees before leaving the lakeside as you start the return route towards Le Pont, stopping at the playground in Les Charbonnières before reaching the final starting point of the charming family promenade.
