The Orbe is a river that forms a link between France, the Vallée de Joux and the plain of Vaud.
The Orbe is one of the rivers that has shaped the territory of the canton of Vaud. Its course is particularly varied: between wild meanders, crossed lakes, underground adventures, tumultuous waterfalls and peaceful canyons.
The river is born in the French Lac des Rousses. It makes the link between the two neighboring countries, blithely passing the border to join the Vallée de Joux. On Swiss soil, Le Brassus is the first village it crosses. The very name of the town flows from the river, being a contraction of the "upper arm" of l’Orbe.
Between Le Brassus and Le Sentier, beautiful hiking trails run along the river Orbe and walkers can discover interesting natural places such as the Marais du Campe.
The name of the village of L'Orient is also linked to the river, as it lies on its eastern bank.
Further on, the "Tête du Lac" - the place where the Orbe flows into Lac de Joux - is also one of the favorite tour destinations for nature lovers and beautiful walks. At Le Pont, L’Orbe briefly resurfaces before plunging into Lac Brenet and follows an underground course that dug the magnificent Grottes de Vallorbe.
